The Club Car Electric golf car promises years of driving pleasure without any hassle or issues. However regular maintenance is key to keeping your golf car in top form and ensuring reliability issues do not arise.
Battery
The battery powers your electric Precedent golf car, so you’ll want to make sure it holds the charge for the longest duration possible. A well-maintained battery will last at least 5 years. However, if left unchecked, it will corrode and loose performance and range.
- Charge the battery after every trip.
- Wash/clean the battery terminals and tops once a month to ensure the batteries stay clean and corrosion-free.
- Ensure that the hold-downs of the battery are tightened. This ensures that the batteries don’t move when the golf car is in motion. Don’t over-tighten as the battery case can buckle or crack.
- If your Precedent golf car does not feature a single-point watering system, check the electrolyte level every week – add water as needed.
- If the vehicle features a single-point watering system, add water once a month or as per the watering cycle you follow per the instructions in the owner’s manual.
- Be sure to charge your batteries before adding water. However, if the electrolyte level is below the top of the plates, add water just enough to cover the plates. You can charge the battery after that and check the levels once again.
- If the plates are above the electrolyte level, avoid charging the batteries.
- Be sure to use distilled water to maximise your battery life. Turn the battery cap tight enough to avoid electrolyte leakage.
Semi-Annual Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your electric Club Car is important. Perform the following checks once every six months or every 50 hours of runtime.
- Check tyre pressure and adjust as necessary.
- Get a technician to inspect the vehicle’s electrical system, brake system, camber and toe-in and front wheel alignment.
- If your golf cart has a single-point watering system, check the electrolyte levels on each battery to ensure the valve operation is correct.
- Lubricate the charger receptacle, front suspension and brake system.
- Check the power cables and connections for damage. Ensure the connections are secure and tight.
Annual Maintenance
It is important to perform annual checks on some important parts of your golf cart to address wear and tear.
- Check the steering and suspension parts and tighten any loose parts. This ensures that the steering works appropriately.
- Get a trained Club Car technician to check the car’s transaxle & pedal group assembly. Lubricate it as necessary once a year or every 100 hours runtime.
Don’t Abuse the Batteries
Take special care to follow the instructions provided in the owner’s manual about battery maintenance. Do not leave batteries discharged, overfill batteries or add water at improper times. These actions can damage the batteries severely.
